Throughout the years, our team at IMS has been happy to provide the support needed for many young Caymanians in pursuit of their further educational and professional qualifications.
This has included awarding talented students who are interested in working in the financial and professional services industries with our IMS University Grant.
We recently caught up with Derricka Neysmith, a previous recipient, to learn more about how the grant has opened up opportunities for her.
"When I first started university in 2017, I was quite oblivious to just how much it would cost. Although I had already secured scholarships to cover my tuition, I did not have sufficient funding for all of the extra expenses that come with studying abroad. Luckily, as an avid newspaper reader I came across the International Management Services (IMS) University Grant and immediately applied!
At that point, my studies had already begun, however IMS was very accommodating and allowed me to conduct my interview on a video call, and shortly after I received the news that I was successful.
Throughout my four years at the University of Miami, IMS has supported me financially through their grant programme. Mr Gary Butler was always responsive to my emails, concerns and always provided me with support in a timely manner.
I am pleased to share that in 2021 I obtained my Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance with a Minor in Business Law. I am now employed as a graduate accountant at Grant Thornton whilst I am pursing my CPA.
I will forever be grateful for the support of IMS during my undergraduate studies and I encourage other young Caymanians who are interested in working in the financial services industry to learn more about their University Grant program."
